Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Frosted Gold Flying Tourbillon

For years, the luxury watch market has been dominated by a few. This trend seems to be continuing as Audemars Piguet proves once again that it cannot be taken lightly. Honestly, there are only a handful of watchmakers who can do what Audemars Piguet does. The new Royal Oak Concept Frosted Gold Flying Tourbillon proves this. It doesn't matter if you are a fan of haute horlogerie. You will at least let out a "wow" when witnessing this architectural beauty.

This timepiece is smaller than the usual Royal Oak we are used to seeing these days. Its diameter is only 38.5 mm. The watch also showcases a new matte finish developed in collaboration with coveted jeweler Carolina Bucci. This finish can be seen on the top of the lugs and the top of the bezel. Meanwhile, the edges of the bezel and the sides of the case present different finishes. The former has a polished finish, while the latter has a brushed finish.

Coming to the show, this watch has a very interesting dial design. The multi-level blue dial gradually descends into the case, highlighting the user’s attention to the flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock. A concentric oval surrounds the flying tourbillon, set with 19 brilliant-cut diamonds in the center.
The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Frosted Gold Flying Tourbillon is available in white gold and rose gold. At 38.5mm wide and 11.9mm thick, this pinnacle of design and architecture features a multi-layered dial and a sunburst gradient aesthetic. The watch doesn't have any indexes, but it does manage to shine on the hand. Water resistance to 20 meters isn't all that impressive, but then again, it shouldn't be. This watch has a choice between a blue leather strap and a slightly shiny blue rubber bracelet. It does have a gold folding clasp, though.
The movement is visible through the caseback, and the new Royal Oak Concept is powered by an in-house Calibre 2964. Beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour, the hand-wound movement offers the usual hours and minutes with an impressive 72-hour power reserve. However, the cherry on the cake must be the flying tourbillon with a set of nineteen brilliant-cut diamonds. The watch is a boutique exclusive and unnumbered limited edition of Audemars Piguet.
The movement is manufactured by Renaud & Papi, a former subsidiary of Audemars Piguet, formerly known as APRP. The Calibre 2964 also has concentric ovals on the movement side against a background of gunmetal and brushed finishes.
The first and most important thing that comes to mind is that this timepiece is not designed for everyone. It's so simple. There's a lot of quirkiness about this watch. Frosted finishes, diamonds and, of course, the small and aggressive Royal Oak Concept case. The idea behind the Royal Oak Concept watch is to give the brand a space to experiment. The brand uses the collection to try new things and see how audiences react to them.
So while some might not find this watch special, I'm personally a big fan of the Concept Frosted Gold Flying Tourbillon. When it comes to the complexity of the watch, there is nothing to complain about. Again, some people may wish to make some changes here and there. For example, some buyers may prefer a version without a matte finish. That being said, this watch looks perfect.
