1956 was the year Carl F. Bucherer introduced his 34mm dual composite chronograph. With its two-tone aesthetic, this chronograph features a gold-plated case and a "salmon" pink dial with prominent rectangular pushers and a large crown. The juxtaposition of the fine gold-trimmed case and tool watch functions clearly positions the model as an elegant gentleman's chronograph. This handsome vintage watch has been chosen by the brand as the basis for the new "Heritage" collection, starting with the 2019 Heritage Bicompax year. But instead of just bringing the old design back to life, CFB decided to give it a mechanical makeover by implementing one of the most practical types of calendars in existence.

Following the first limited editions of 2019 that included a silver Panda steel dial, the Lucerne-based brand is launching the exact opposite this year, again in a stainless steel case but with what it calls the "Inverted Panda". In addition to this new dial, this new edition of the Heritage Bicompax Annual retains the same 41mm case, with its brushed finish and multiple polished accents - on the sides of the thin bezel or lugs. Referring to its retro inspiration, this watch features well-integrated and ergonomic rectangular buttons. It is protected by a double-domed sapphire crystal that enhances its retro look.

The main feature of this Heritage Bicompax Watch of the Year is that, despite its relatively simple dial, it is a rather complicated watch that combines a dual-recording "bicompax" chronograph and an annual calendar. As it currently stands, it only needs to be corrected every 4 years in leap years, as it automatically takes into account 28, 30 or 31 day months. Therefore, it will remain accurate until 2024. It is seen as the best compromise between a simple date or full calendar and a complex and expensive perpetual calendar. On the Heritage Bicompax Annual Watch, the calendar is displayed with a large date, two discs at 12 o'clock and the month at 4:30. Beneath the sapphire caseback is an ETA (2894)-based automatic chronograph base movement with an additional annual calendar module and a 42-hour power reserve. Not the best of the CFB engines, but it makes this watch fairly easy to use.

The new Carl F. Bucherer Heritage Bicompax Annual Black Dial comes in two versions, with a black leather strap or a black rubber strap.
