This new timepiece is part of the Wonders of the World collection, which celebrates more than 2,000 years of the country's history and culture.
The Roman numerals on the skeletonized dial are hand-engraved and painted black, while the hand-finished hands are finished in the manufactory-designed blue.
Fine Watchmaking Meets High Jewelry
The Astronomia Collection, Jacob & Co. took the tourbillon a step further by introducing an additional axis. For this Astronomia, the tourbillons are biaxial, with one rotating for 60 seconds and the other for 5 minutes.
Since its founding in 1986, Jacob & Co. has been at the forefront of the use of gemstones, developing many specialty cutting and setting techniques. The brand has developed 288 facets of Jacob's cut diamonds for the Astronomia Tourbillon. This unique cut requires only a few gem cutters; during the process, the rough stone is often twice the size of the finished diamond. The faceting must be precise for the diamond to be perfectly symmetrical and round.
In a unique creation in Mexico, one of the world's astronomical wonders, a one-carat Jacobs-cut diamond spins in 60 seconds. The globes are made of blue-painted magnesium to ensure consistent weight, as all four satellites must be exactly the same weight. Earth spins in 60 seconds.
The diameter of the Astronomia case is 50mm and the thickness between the highest point of the curved sapphire crystal and the lowest point of the case is 25mm. The case, in rose gold, is surrounded by four sapphire crystal windows, which allow unobstructed views of the magnificent movement and the artwork it contains.
