Richard Mille is not a brand for the faint of heart or sophisticated wardrobes, but a brand for fans who live life as its bold designs. When Richard Mille tries to show restraint—as with the RM 67-01 Automatic Ultra-Thin Watch and cufflinks—it only further emphasizes its penchant for bold aesthetics.
The RM 67-01 Extra Flat Automatic is perhaps one of Richard Mille’s most minimalist watches to date, or as simple as it gets for the brand. Its main difference is that, as the name suggests, it is an extremely slim watch, measuring just 7.75mm thick. Not so thin that it breaks records or might be too flimsy for everyday wear, but thin enough to showcase the brand's characteristic technical proficiency while still being able to be worn under a shirt cuff at night.
In addition to showing the time, the only other indications on the RM 67-01 are the date display at 5 o’clock and a hand at 2 o’clock indicating the position of the crown when pulled out – W for winding, D for date, H for manual set up. However, the watch is still technically complex, with its movement featuring a large skeleton design and a thickness of just 3.6 mm. The case is beautifully crafted and equally complex, requiring 215 machining steps to complete, far more than a standard watch case.
This sophistication also extends to men’s cufflinks, which founder Richard Mille created in his ongoing pursuit of engineering excellence and which permeate all of his accessories. Their creation took two years and each piece contains an impressive 38 components. The cufflinks feature a patented mechanism that replaces the regular rotating T-bar. Instead, the rods are removable and pop out when the wearer presses buttons on either side of the cufflinks. To close the lever, simply press the top plate. Made from grade 5 titanium, Richard Mille's cufflinks are technically complex, yet reliable and beautiful – just like their watches.
