These details pay homage to the practice of Seiko's founder, Kintaro Hattori, who enhanced the appeal of watches by engraving intricate patterns on them.
These watches represent four of Seiko's most popular collections: King Seiko, Prospex, Astron, and Presage.
Over its 145-year history, Seiko has grown from a small watch shop in Ginza selling imported European pocket watches to one of the most influential and innovative watchmakers in the 20th and 21st centuries. To celebrate this milestone and kick off its upcoming new product launch season, Seiko is releasing four limited-edition watches across the King Seiko, Prospex, Presage, and Astron collections. Each watch features gold accents, and its design is inspired by the exquisite engraving patterns used by Seiko's founder, Kintaro Hattori, on his early products.
The King Seiko SJE121, the most expensive and elegant of the four limited-edition watches, joins the King Seiko KS1969 series. This timepiece features a grey dial with a radiating gradient from light to dark around the edge, resembling a dense guilloché pattern. This pattern, inspired by the engravings on Kintaro pocket watches, creates a sense of depth through texture, while the gold hands, hour markers, and lettering add just the right amount of commemorative significance without being ostentatious. For me, the SJE121 is the most outstanding of the four limited-edition watches.
The watch case has a diameter of 38.1 mm, continuing the slim proportions championed by King Seiko at its founding in the 1960s. The densely layered bracelet uses alternating mirror-polished and brushed finishes, a technique that enhances wearing comfort by distributing weight and adding visual interest. The watch is powered by the 6L35 caliber movement, a slim automatic movement with a 45-hour power reserve and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. Thanks to the movement's slim design and a wrist-hugging center of gravity, the case is only 11 mm thick and is water-resistant to 50 meters.

Last year, we saw the sporty Speedtimer series join the fray, such as the dual-crown SPB513 and three limited edition Datsun 240Z models. Now, in 2026, we welcome the more elegant Speedtimer series—the SRQ059. Its white dial features an engraved pattern similar to that of the King Seiko SJE121, paired with gold hands and hour markers. The slender link design adds to its refined look, while the case utilizes Seiko's Diashield super-hard coating, ensuring the watch's durability.
Curtains are the 8R48 movement, a mechanical movement employing a vertical clutch and column wheel for smooth chronograph function, and equipped with a MEMS escapement. Furthermore, it offers a 45-hour power reserve (28,800 vibrations per hour) and 100-meter water resistance.

Presage SPB538
This Presage watch is inspired by Seiko's first pocket watch, the Timekeeper Type 17, launched in 1895. The Timekeeper Type 17, known for its onion-shaped crown, applied bezel, and smooth enamel dial, was a successful attempt. The SPB538 watch incorporates these design elements into its 35mm case, showcasing both vintage charm and modern wearing comfort.
The white enamel dial is adorned with slender Roman numeral hour markers for excellent legibility; the box-shaped sapphire crystal adds depth and a contemporary feel, while the three-dimensional bezel echoes the silhouette of its historical prototype. Movable lugs and a buckle-style leather strap from a Leather Working Group certified tannery complete the timepiece. Inside, the 6R51 movement beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour and offers a 72-hour power reserve.

I wonder what Mr. Kintaro Hattori would think if he saw a GPS solar-powered dual time zone chronograph like the Astron SSH186… He might find the technology perplexing, but its rich black and gold color scheme might feel familiar to him; at least to me, it evokes images of high-end Japanese lacquerware. The dial, case, and integrated bracelet are all in gold tones, but the most striking feature is the gold sapphire crystal set on the bezel—a detail that adds depth and dimension to the watch. The watch features numerous exquisite design details, such as the gold markers at 1, 4, and 5 o'clock on the UTC scale, a tribute to the number "145".
The titanium case and bracelet are coated with black Diashield, while the bezel is composed of titanium and the aforementioned sapphire crystal insert. It has a 44.1mm diameter, 14.4mm thickness, is water-resistant to 100 meters, and has anti-magnetic properties of 4800 A/m. The crystal is made of double-curved sapphire crystal with an ultra-clear coating. A convenient triple-folding clasp allows for easy adjustment of the strap size.
The SSH186 watch is powered by the 5X83 movement, which automatically connects to GPS satellites up to twice a day in sunlight, allowing for time and time zone adjustments without manual operation. The watch supports 38 time zones, features automatic daylight saving time adjustment, and high-speed time zone switching. The perpetual calendar function is operational until 2100, the chronograph function is accurate to 1/20th of a second, and it includes a 12-hour counter. With a full charge, the power reserve is approximately 6 months; in power-saving mode, it can be extended to 2 years. Without GPS signal reception, the watch maintains an accuracy of only ±15 seconds per month within a temperature range of 5°C to 35°C – remarkably precise.
